Trees

Today, JNF and its partners must grapple with the challenge of balancing the phenomenal growth and development Israel has experienced in the last decade with the maintenance of an ecologically sound environment. JNF has been increasingly responsive to the rapidly evolving needs of the country: new water resources, including finding alternative techniques for utilizing waste water as well as brackish and flood water sources, soil conservation issues and river restoration. Historically committed to strengthening the ties between man and land. We have also led successful efforts to ensure the legislative protection of designated areas and forests.

Israel is one of only two countries in the world that entered the 21st century with more trees than it had a hundred years ago. However, Israel is not blessed with natural forests; its forests are all hand-planted. When the pioneers of the State arrived, they were greeted by barren land. One of the first things they did was to plant trees.

Since it was established in 1901, JNF has planted more than 240 million trees all over the State of Israel, providing luscious belts of green covering more than 250,000 acres. Our donors created the British Park, one of the largest parks in the Judean Hills, where you can find dozens of species of birds and animals, along with natural woodlands, fruit orchards, picnic and recreation areas and sports installations.

The JNF’s national forests create “green lungs” around congested towns and cities, and provide recreation and respite for all Israelis. JNF ensures their environmental soundness and is focusing on diversification, planting trees indigenous to the Middle East such as native oaks, carob, redbud, almond, pear, hawthorn, cypress and the exotic Atlantic cedar.

You can purchase trees to help to maintain Israel’s green spaces and offset your carbon footprint here.

Israel depends upon the trees which JNF has been planting for 60 years. JNF depends upon its supporters to provide the trees

Trees help ensure that life flourishes, that the country is beautified and that Israelis are secure. They knit sand into soil, screen roads and communities, enhance the landscape and purify the air for humans and wildlife alike.

Green policies may be fashionable today, but at JNF, we’ve been pursuing them for 100 years.

No gift to friends or family can be more meaningful than making a significant contribution to the land and people of Israel in their name.

Trees, at £10 each, may be purchased in any multiples of your choice.
